Marie Mitlyng, of rural Montevideo, died on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 86.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter of rural Dawson, MN. Committal services will be conducted on Thursday, April 18 at 10:30 AM at St. Pauls Cathedral Columbarium.
Marie Anna (Pierce) Mitlyng was born on March 31, 1916 in Chicago, Il to John and Maria Anna (Paulson) Pierce. She grew up in Chicago, St Paul and Minneapolis, graduating from Minneapolis South High School in 1933. She graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis and obtained her Masters from the University of Minnesota. She worked for the National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Agriculture, living in San Francisco, Cincinnati, Chicago, Peoria and Washington, DC. She was united in marriage to Spencer Mitlyng in May of 1990 in Sun City, AZ. She was a member of the National Organization of Women, was active in Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Baxter and had been a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Peoria, IL. She enjoyed working in her church and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer; a son, Rolf Sivertsen of Lacon, IL; a daughter, Nancy Sivertsen of Danville, IL; a granddaughter, Emily Pasierb of Danville, IL; and a step-daughter, Selene Mitlyng of Daly City, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Edie Winquest.
