Marie Van Zyl, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 85.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, April 29, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor Michael Altena officiating. Committal services will be on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Marie Helene Van Zyl was born on August 19, 1919 in Orange City, IA to Frank and Helena (DeLint) Noteboom. She was baptized on September 3, 1919 in Orange City. She attended school in Orange City, IA and graduated from Orange City High School. On August 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to Herman Van Zyl. They lived and farmed in Newkirk and Archer, IA before moving in 1950 to a farm in Grace Township north of Montevideo, MN. She was a former member of Rosewood United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Hope Reformed Church. She had been active in ladies aid and had served as financial secretary of the Rosewood United Methodist Church. Her interests included baking, cooking, sewing, and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Herman; one son: Gerald (Jerry) Van Zyl and his wife Carol of Montevideo; three grandchildren: Kimberly (Russell) Marcus, Patricia (Rich) Moen, and Douglas (Danielle) Van Zyl; eight great-grandchildren: Jessica, Zachary, Joshua, and Benjamin Marcus, Tyler Moen, and Parker, Lani and Liza Van Zyl; two brothers: Hubert Noteboom of Orange City, IA and Lee Noteboom of Sheldon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Johanna Sorgdrager and Adeline Riemersma and a brother, Arie Noteboom.
