Marie Weckwerth

November 16, 1925 — April 29, 2017

Marie Weckwerth, of Montevideo, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 1:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Rev. Ronald Hobbie will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017  from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before services.

Marie Opal (Gruchow) Weckwerth was born on November 16, 1925 in Tunsberg Township, Chippewa County to George and Alice (Harbach) Gruchow.  She was baptized on November 26, 1936 and confirmed April 2, 1939 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo.  She grew up on a farm Northeast of Montevideo and attended school there.  She then went on to one year of teacher’s training.  She married Arnold Weckwerth on April 13, 1947 at the St. John’s parsonage.  They had 5 children together.  Besides being a mother and farm wife Marie also worked at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.  Marie lived at Brookside Manor from 2012 until April  2017, when she moved to Luther Haven.

Marie was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Bible Study.  Her hobbies included embroidery work, reading , bird watching and baking bread. When Marie lived at Brookside Manor she enjoyed playing bingo and farkle with her friends. She cherished her time looking after her young grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her children: Neal (Kathy) Weckwerth, Cottonwood, MN, Mark (Carmen) Weckwerth, Montevideo, MN, Milton (Kathie) Weckwerth, Park Rapids, MN, Judith Bloch, Montevideo,  MN; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Merle (Verlie) Weckwerth, Montevideo, MN, Junie (Lewis) Weckwerth, Montevideo, MN and sister-in-law, Marion Weckwerth, Benson, MN as well as other extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold; son, Dale, granddaughter, Shar-Rae, brother, Howard Gruchow; sisters: Ruth Johnson, Beulah Olson and Clarice Gilbertson; and son-in-law, Steve Bloch.
