Marlene Berends of Montevideo and formerly of Maynard, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Chippewa - County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 78.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Maynard Lutheran Church. Pastor Kathy Skoglund will officiate and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Marlene Ann (Hubble) Berends was born February, 28, 1935 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Frederick and Lillian (Tischer) Hubble. She moved with her family as a child to the Maynard area. She was united in marriage to Martin Berends December 10, 1952 in Key West, FL. They made their home on a farm near Maynard. She and Martin owned and ran a café in Maynard and also worked at Regal Homes and at Barwick’s. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marlene was always a good hostess and her home was a gathering place for family, friends and neighbors..
She is survived by seven children: Rick (Pam) Berends of Montevideo, Deb (Al) Paulzine of Alexandria, Brenda (Jeff) Aker of Maynard, Butch (Brenda) Berends of Montevideo, Randy (Tammy) Berends of Montevideo, Sandy (Tom) Jacobs of Kansas City, MO, and Terry (Judi) Berends of East Wenatchee, WA; twenty-two grandchildren: Karie (Rich ) Berends, Heather (Derek) DeSchepper, Wade (Melissa) Berends, Eric (Katie) Johansen, Sara (Scott) Klimek, Michelle (Mike ) Paulzine, Eric (Brittney) Paulzine, Stacey Paulzine, Chad Aker, Shawn (Melissa) Aker, Corey (Val) Aker, Stephanie (Trevor) White, Tracy (Brandon) Berends, Troy Berends, Dustin (Jenni) Berends, Travis, and Jaden Berends, Austin, Brady and Chantel Jacobs, Ty and Charli Berends; thirty-four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Vi Loe of Maynard, Delores Buhr of Litchfield, and Ilene Kormann of Waseca,; numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Martin in 2005; and three brothers: Floyd, Donald, and Fred Hubble.
