April 6, 1935 — March 17, 2020

Marlene Kimpling passed from this life to her heavenly home on March 17, 2020 at Home Front First in Montevideo, surrounded by family, at the age of 84.

A private memorial service by invitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020.  Burial to follow at Strombeck Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home.

Marlene Adella (Peterson) Kimpling was born April 6, 1935 to Theodore and Carrie (Connor) Peterson at the Montevideo Hospital. She grew up on a farm and attended country school thru 8th grade then attended Montevideo High School, graduating in 1953. She married Galen Kimpling on April 25, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. They moved to Detroit, MI while Galen was in the Army. In 1955 they moved back home to rural Maynard to farm. They were blessed with six children: Delbert, Debra, Darlene, Dean, David and DeVonna.

From 1971- 1973 she attended summer school at the University of MN Morris. She started working outside of the home in the fall of 1971 at Head Start in Montevideo and continued there for two years. She then got a job at the Maynard School as a title one instructor, and she was there for 10 years. Her love of baking landed her a job at Hotel Hunt, where she worked for four years. In October 1988 she started working as a cook at Luther Haven, where she worked for 28 years. For her last 13 years at Luther Haven she was the seamstress. It seems like the whole town knew she sewed because when she was home she was always mending or altering somebody’s clothes or projects.

Her love of sewing started very young when she learned to sew from her mom on a Singer pedal machine. She took many sewing projects to the county and state fair as a 4-H’er and as a result she taught most of her children and grand children to sew as well. When she moved to Montevideo in 1989 she then became a member of the Salem Quilters Club where they sewed quilts for the missions and High School Seniors. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church active in the women’s group and bible study.

Marlene loved her children, grand children and great-grand children going to as many of their activities as she could. She especially enjoyed going to concerts, musicals and sporting events with a proud smile on her face.

She is survived by her children: Delbert (Corinne) Kimpling of Maynard, Debra (Gary) Johnson of Maplewood, Darlene Kimpling of Wayzata, Dean (special friend Cathy) Kimpling of Arlington, SD, David (Brenda) Kimpling of Ellsworth and DeVonna (Tom) Zeug of Walnut Grove, 14 grand children and 26 great grand children. Her sister Kathy (Tom) Leindecker of Montevideo and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Galen, infant grandson Rory Johnson, sister Lavonne Schultz, brother-in-law Earl Schultz and her niece Brenda Leindecker.

Blessed be her memory..
