Marlys Harriet (Gilsrud) Evjen

Marlys Evjen,died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 83.

Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at Bergen Lutheran Church with Rev. Jennifer Hackbarth officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family from 6-8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.

Marlys Harriet Evjen was born on September 9, 1920 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN the daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Christiansen) Gilsrud.  She was baptized in 1920 and confirmed in 1933 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. Marlys was united in marriage with Eldon Evjen November 15, 1942 at the Gilsrud family farm.  They farmed near Montevideo before moving to Wood Lake, MN in 1956.  They moved to Wadena, MN in 1972 and returned to Montevideo in 1981.  They moved to Osakis, MN in 1995.  Eldon died March 28, 2001.  Marlys later  moved to Copper Glen in Montevideo and had currently been a resident at Luther Haven Nursing Home.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and MN Valley Farm and Antique Power Association.  She was always active in her church where she enjoyed Bible study and ladies circle.  Marlys enjoyed gardening, baking, sightseeing, caring for grandchildren, dancing and listening to “old time” music.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandra Jacobsen and her husband Jake of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Renay Gerdes of Shoreview, MN; two sons: Bruce Evjen and his wife Mary of Alexandria, MN and Neil Evjen of Eagan, MN; seven grandchildren: Kristen Jacobsen, Kimberly (Tim) Paitel, Kari Evjen, Angela (Eric) Hinz, Nathan (Netta) Gerdes, Benjamin Evjen, and Rebecca Evjen; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Allison, and Madeline Paitel; one sister, Bonna Kronlokken of Sacred Heart, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon in 2001; and one brother, Meredith Gilsrud.
