Marlys Leora (Mckinny) Lassell

Montevideo

Marlys Lassell, 86, of Montevideo, died May 10, 1997 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 1997 at 2:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo.  Rev. Canon Connie Claxton will officiate and interment will be at Appleton Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.  There will be a VFW Auxiliary service at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Marlys Leora (McKinny) Lassell was born December 28, 1910 near Appleton, MN the daughter of John A. and Sarah (Leonard) McKinny.  She attended rural school and graduated from Appleton High School in 1928.  She was employed in the Twin City area before she was united in marriage with Wesley "Sody" Lassell on June 24, 1934.  They lived in Wegdahl where Sody was the Assistant Manager of the Wegdahl Cooperative Elevator until his death on June 6, 1956.  Marlys worked at the J.C. Penney Store in Montevideo until she purchased the Singer Sewing Machine business which she operated until retiring in 1982.  She was awarded many company trips due to the salesmanship with the company.  Marlys was a 50 year member of the VFW Auxiliary #380 in Montevideo and she served in many offices of the local and district organizations.  She was the 5th District VFW Auxiliary President in 1968-69 and served as District Deputy Chief of Staff for 15 years.  Marlys was a life long member of the Episcopal Church, an active 4-H leader, and a member of extension clubs.

She is survived by two daughters: Charlotte "Chuckie" Wilking and her husband Clarence of Spicer, MN and Nancy Peterson of Villas, NJ; one son, Lyndon Lassell and his wife Pat of North Pole, AK; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Butman of Glenwood, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wesley; one sister, Inez Helling; and three brothers: Willard, Leonard, and Leslie in infancy.
