Marvel Miller of Dawson died early Friday, October 5, 2012, at her home in Dawson at the age of 89.

Visitation was Monday, October 8, from 4-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Funeral service was at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Dawson Covenant Church in rural Dawson with Pastor Erik Carlson officiating; also participating were Pastor Timothy Anderson who read the scriptures  and Pastor James Olson who gave a tribute; Dean and Joyce Pearson performed “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder” and the “King Is Coming;” and pianist, Luanne Fondell accompanied the singing of “Children of the Heavenly Father”, "He the Pearly Gates Will Open” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”  Randy Fjerkenstad, Milt Goplen, Gary Miller, Sam Olson, Daryl Schutte and Randy Tensen were casketbearers and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

Marvel Bernice Miller was born on January 8, 1923, to Martin and Jennie (Nelson) Olson on a farm south-east of Boyd in Ten Mile Lake Township.  She was baptized on February 18, 1923, in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. H.O. Lee.  She was brought up in the Christian  faith.  She was confirmed on June 21, 1936, by Rev J.O. Melom.  She attended rural school in District 55 and then attended Lutheran Brethren Bible School in Fergus Falls.

On November 12, 1948, Marvel was married to Wilford T. Miller at the Dawson Covenant Church.  They lived on various farms in the area while they were engaged in farming. To this union four children were born: Theresa, Lois, Thomas, and Joyce.

Marvel became a member of the Dawson Covenant Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and was active in the Covenant Women’s Ministries.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering, making Norwegian foods for her family, especially apple pies

She passed away at her home under hospice care early October 5, 2012, at the age of 89.

Survivors include her children: Theresa “Terri” Johnson and husband, Brian of Land-O-Lakes, FL, Lois Miller of DeKalb, IL, Thomas “Tom” Miller and wife, Marsha of Madison, and Joyce Pearson and husband, Dean of rural Canby; 8 grandchildren: Stephanie (Luke) Piazza of Tampa, FL, Kevin (Julie) Johnson of Wheaton, IL, Patrick Miller of Washington, DC, Ryan (Kaysee) Miller of Avery, ID, Jonathan Miller of Madison, MN, Anna (Jason) Stensrud of Big Lake, MN, Kari (Kerry) Sawyer of Council Bluffs, IA, and Kersti Pearson of Moorhead, MN; 4 great-grandchildren: Banner Piazza, Annalee Miller, and Brynn and Broden Stensrud; 2 brothers: James (Evie) Olson of Shoreline, WA and Lloyd (Pearl) of Spicer, MN; brother-in-law, Leonard Liebl of Dawson and sister-in-law, Rose (Sherman) Olson of Bloomington; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilford on September 24, 1998; brother, Sherman Olson and sister, Ione Liebl.
