Marvel "Markey" (Sundem) Moe

December 14, 1916 — June 10, 2014

Marvel “Markey” Moe, of Montevideo, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Marvel Marcella “Markey” Moe was born on December 14, 1916 in Montevideo, MN to Adolph and Maybelle (Clark) Sundem.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She attended schools in Ortonville and Montevideo, graduating from Montevideo High School in 1935. She attended the University of Minnesota.  In July of 1944 she was united in marriage to Lt. Hilmer J. Olson, Jr. in the chapel at the air base in San Antonio, TX.  On April 25, 1949, Lt. Olson lost his life when a plane he was flying crashed in the mountains. On September 30, 1962 she exchanged marriage vows with Capt. Norman Moe at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN.  They divided their residence between Madison, MN and Scottsdale, AZ.  Norman died in 1977.  She was an active member of her churches - Our Saviors Lutheran of Montevideo, Faith Lutheran of Madison, MN and Prince of Peace Lutheran in Scottsdale, AZ, and was involved in charity drives and choir.  As a member of Big Brothers, they enjoyed the many visits of their little brother, Rickie.  For several years, the Madison Go-Getters 4 H Club enjoyed the use of their farm buildings and land for their projects, and many close friends were derived from this association. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, reading,  swimming ,being a creative writer and entertaining her family and friends.

She is survived by two sisters: Phyllis Wik of Montevideo and Hermoine Claggett of Zephyrhills, FL; a brother, Alan Sundem of Gilbert, AZ and by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and by a brother, Darrell Sundem.
