Marvel Skotterud of Dawson died Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Johnson Memorial Chapel in Dawson and at the church for one hour before services.
Marvel Mary (Schlee) Skotterud was born June 13, 1918, at Clarkfield, MN, the daughter of Martin and Clara (Rogge) Schlee. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1935. Marvel was joined in marriage to Clarence “Skippy” Skotterud on September 1, 1940, at the home of Rev. G.S. Froilund in Dawson. One of the most exciting events in her life was the day that they received their adopted son, Steve at the age of 5 weeks. They owned and operated the Dawson Cleaners and also Skippy’s Little Folks Shop and the Hamburger Shop. Clarence died in 1982. She later worked in the Social Life Department at Johnson Memorial Home for 22 years. Marvel moved to the Johnson Memorial Home in 2007, and remained there until her death on Friday, May 11, at the age of 93.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and participated in its women’s groups and circle. She was also the wedding coordinator/assistant at church for a number of years. She enjoyed reading and playing cards and bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Steve Skotterud of Spicer, MN; three grandchildren: Stephanie (Michael) Olson of Spicer, Adam (Vicky) Skotterud of Spicer, and April (Craig) Schuller of St. Cloud; sixteen great-grandchildren: Makenna, Kaden, Sidney, Terell, Christian (Madeline), Gabrielle, Madeline, Lily, Christophe, Willow, Sebastian, Rainier, Frederique, Thiery, Marta, and Giselle; nephew, Howard (Barbara) Marquardt of Glenwood; and niece, Mary Beth (Dean) Westby of Park Rapids.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Clarence; brother, Harlan Schlee; and sister, Roselyn Marquardt.
