Marvin Draeger, of Montevideo and formerly of Clara City, died on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 82.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor Michael Altena officiating. Interment will be in the Bethany Reformed Cemetery in Clara City. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Marvin Robert Draeger was born on February 5, 1924 on a farm northeast of Montevideo, MN to Julius and Selma (Spletter) Draeger. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sparta Township, attended rural school in District 61 and attended Montevideo High School. On October 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Barbara Doesken at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. They farmed north of Clara City for 30 years before moving to Montevideo in 1980. He worked in construction until 1988, when he retired. He was currently a member of Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo and had been a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. He had also been a member of the Eagles Club in Willmar, MN for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, refinishing antique furniture and visiting with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; children: Trudy (and James) Knoop of Montevideo, Shirley (and David) Knoop of Willmar, MN, Faye (and Bradlley) Berghuis of Park Rapids, MN and Richard Draeger of Montevideo; ten grandchildren: Erik (and Mandy) Knoop, Michael (and Colleen) Knoop, Andrea (and Troy) Thomsen, Kimberly (and James) Neubauer, Matthew (and Kim) Berghuis, Jessica (and Greg) Mumm, Meagan (and Ryan) Leckner, Tony Berghuis, Ben Draeger, and Ryan (and Alicia) Draeger; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ervin Draeger of Belleville, IL and James (and Sandra) Draeger of Montevideo; two sisters: Lorraine (and Bob) Norman of Buffalo, MN and Donna Witzany of Waite Park, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
