Marvin passed away at his home in Stanton with family by his side on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012, at the age of 82.
Funeral service was at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 4, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastors Kendall Stelter and John Biggs officiating; scripture lessons for Pastor Stelter's message were Psalm 23, I Peter 1:1-9 and John 3:16; organist, Chris Lehne accompanied vocalist, Heide Sachariason in singing "Softly and Tenderly" and "The Lord's Prayer" and the congregation in singing "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Interment was in Grace Cemetery in Dawson.
Marvin Carl Evenson was born August 29, 1929, on the family farm in Maxwell Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota, to Carl and Cora (Clausen) Evenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and attended District #26 County School. After his education, he worked as a blacksmith, farmer and in construction. He married Avis L. Neraasen on October 15, 1950, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. After marriage, they lived in Boyd until he was drafted. While he was serving, Avis lived with him for a short time in Georgia and Texas. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, they started farming, first in Lac Qui Parle Township and later in Riverside Township. In 1963, they moved to St. Paul for a year, in 1964 to Northfield and shortly after to Randolph. During that time Marvin owned and operated Marv’s Barber Shop in Northfield. In 1969, they moved to their home in Stanton and Marvin began working as a truck driver hauling milk for Dairy Fresh. In 1991, he retired from Dairy Fresh and spent the Spring and Fall of the last 17 years working for Volkert Farms. Only not returning this Spring as his health failed after being diagnosed with cancer in March.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and gardening. He was a honest, hardworking man who loved his family and was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include 2 sons: Roger of Stanton; Randy and companion Robyn Prinzing of Dennison; 3 grandchildren: Brock (Therese) of Silver Bay, Briana (Denver Jacobson) of Rosemount, Chase of Dennison; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters-in-law: Swanhild Vanatter of Waterford, Michigan, Elnore Bergeson of Dawson, Rosalind Varpness of Echo, Eileen Sather of Madison, Alitrice Neraasen of Dawson; special friend, Vicki Evenson of Hampton; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Avis on September 22, 2010; their infant son, Ronald; his parents; and his brother, Chester Clausen.
A special thank you is given to his cousin LeRoy & Darlene Sandbakken and to Northfield Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
