Marvin Parks

October 3, 1938 — April 17, 2014

Marvin Parks, 75, of Montevideo, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Hopkins, MN with his family surrounding him.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Maynard.  Rev. Beverly Crute will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Montevideo.

Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Marvin Allen Parks was born October 3, 1938 at Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Marvin H. and Lois (Howlett) Parks.   He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD in 1956.  Marv was united in marriage with Carol (Kleinheksel) October 3, 1959 at Wesley Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, SD.   He served in the US Army from 1961-63.  He attended college at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell, and received a Masters Degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings.  They lived in Sioux Falls, Garden City, and Ramona, SD before moving to Maynard, MN in 1967 and later Montevideo in 1984. He was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Maynard for many years.  Marv loved to fish, play cards, and to bowl. Throughout his life, he filled many roles: son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, friend, teacher, coach, counselor, security guard, bus driver, veteran, and do-er of what needed to be done.  He was working at Bill’s Supermarket until two months before his death.

He is survived by his three children: Wendy Klager and her husband Pete of Farmington, MN, Cindy Bauer of Apple Valley, MN and Jeffrey Parks and his wife Gretchen of Prior Lake, MN; six grandchildren: Scott, Amanda, and Max Bauer and David, Michael, and Benjamin Parks; three sisters: Shirley Hovdenes of Sturgis, SD, Joelene Johnson of Lincoln, NE, and Lee Ann McGregor of Grandview, MO; and one brother: Ronald Parks of Mitchell, SD.

Preceding him in death was his wife Carol in 2002 and his parents.
