Mary Benson, of Montevideo, died Monday, November 21, 2016 at Home Front- Rosewood in Montevideo at the age of 77.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 25 at 2:00 PM at St, Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be held at the church from 1-2 PM on Friday.
Mary was born on February 2, 1939 to Jacob and Mary (Burggraff) Hemauer. She was raised with her sister Janet in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from St. Joseph Cathedral. Mary met and married Pete Benson on January 11, 1958. Together they had six children.
Mary worked most of her life as a cook at various Montevideo restaurants and as a part-time bartender at the VFW. She greatly enjoyed her time bowling on leagues and was on several bridge clubs with many of her friends. Mary was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was an active board member of the Montevideo Senior Center. Mary always made time for family and friends, but she will be most remembered for her hard work ethic and love of her family.
Mary is survived by her children: Sherri (Jeff) Larson, St. Louis Park, MN, Todd Benson, Blaine, MN, Bob (Cindy) Benson, Prior Lake, MN, Lori (Todd) Worthington, Bloomington, MN, Brad Benson, Brooklyn Park, MN and Cathy Novak, St. Cloud, MN; along with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete, her sister Janet Van Loh, her son- in-law Chuck Novak, and her granddaughter Jessica Benson.
