Maurice Norwood, of Maynard, died on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at the Clara City Nursing Home at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at the Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Hovland officiating. Burial will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Maurice Llewellyn Norwood was born on July 18, 1905 in Scandia Township of Murray County, MN to Hilton and Beatrice (Holiston) Norwood. He lived on a farm and attended rural schools before the family moved to Marshall in 1916. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1923. He worked for Northwestern Bell for 2 years in Canton, SD and farmed with his father in the Marshall area and in Swift County. In 1938 began working on road construction. On August 22, 1939 he was united in marriage to Ruby Martinson at Maynard Lutheran Church. In 1944 he began farming in Grace Township, on a farm south of DeGraff and in Havelock Township before moving into Maynard in 1969. His wife, Ruby died in 1967. He worked for six years at the Liquor Store and was City Clerk for 5 years. He started assessing in 1940 and worked at it until 1984 with the exception of 3 years when he lived in Swift Co. He was united in marriage to Irene Erlandson on November 26, 1977. He was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church and the Maynard Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, watching sporting events on television and playing cards, especially pinochle. He was currently a resident of the Clara City Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; three children: Margene Frerichs and her husband Menno of Maynard, MN, Bob Norwood and his wife Carolyn of Cooperstown, ND, and Jac Lynn Norwood of Lewisville, TX; three step-children: John Erlandson and his wife Donna of Cambridge, MN, Glenn Erlandson and his wife Diane of Brainerd, MN, and Lowell Erlandson, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Graham, NC; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Sherman Norwood of Marshall, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruby in 1967; two brothers: Lyndon and Virgil Norwood; and three sisters: Holly Plowman, Alathea Arlt, and Isabelle Norwood.
