Mavis Jorgenson, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 97. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Eugene Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Mavis Dora (Blom) Jorgenson was born on September 23, 1913 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Alfred and Mathilde (Skogrand) Blom. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. E. Strom. She attended school in District 11, graduated from Milan High School in 1930 and attended teachers training in Montevideo. On March 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ira Jorgenson by Rev. Strom at the Watson Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed in Section 28 of Mandt Township and the Anton Allickson farm in Section 34 of Big Bend Township for short times before moving to Section 15 of Big Bend Township, where they farmed until retiring and moving to Montevideo in 1976. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past eight years. She was a long-time member of Big Bend Lutheran Church, where she was involved in circle and its women's groups, and was also involved with a homemakers club. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, quilting, flowers, baseball, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two children: Michael (and Amy) Jorgenson of Montevideo, MN and Mary (and Dave) Moe of Milan, MN; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Blom of Montevideo and Mildred Blom of Louisville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ira, in 2000; sisters: Irene Gould, Pearl Tostenson and Esther Jorgenson and by brothers: Art, Clifton, Reuben and Harris Blom.
