Mavis Larson, of the Hagen/Big Bend area, died on Monday, April 3, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 77.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. David DeMars officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, as well as for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mavis Arline (Lein) Larson was born on June 12, 1928 in Wallingford, IA to Oscar and Myrtle (Jacobson) Lein. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1946. She worked as a secretary at the Securities Acceptance and License Bureau in 1946 and worked in the insurance department of the Union State Bank in Montevideo for several years. On May 7, 1949 she was united in marriage to Virgil Larson at the Watson Lutheran Church. They lived in rural Watson, MN for five years before moving to “the snip” in Hagen, MN in 1954, where they have resided for the past 52 years. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper in the family business - Larson Gravel and was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Big Bend Lutheran Church and its W.E.L.C.A. group. She enjoyed her home, lawn and yard work, softball, bowling, helping the food shelf, gardening, quilting, and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil; by twins: Larry Larson of Milan, MN and Linda Haugen and her husband Tim of Elm Springs, SD; a daughter, Lois Doring and her husband Randy of Champlin, MN; six grandchildren: Tyler (Dee) Haugen of Sturgis, SD, Tadd (Shannon) Haugen of Rozet, WY, Will (Cortney) Haugen of Mitchell, SD, Lane (Zach) Shull of Rapid City, SD, Matt (Amber) Doring of Big Lake, MN and Josh Doring of Champlin, MN; four great-grandchildren: Landry Haugen, Dillon Haugen, Kamryn Shull and Trey Doring; brothers, Vernon (Connie) Lein of Boyd, MN and Loren (Florence) Lein of Blue Earth, MN; a sister, Vera Hermanson of Fargo, ND; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Tom Hermanson.
