Maxie Lou Hanson

Maxie Lou Hanson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Clara City Care Center  at the age of 88.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Sam Kautz officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday

Maxie Lou (Todt) Hanson was born on August 31, 1929 in Cassville, WI at her grandparent’s home to Max and Fannie (Frankland) Todt.  They farmed in the Wood Lake area, moved to Boyd for two years and then settled in Montevideo.  She met Curtis Hanson at a softball game in Smith Park and they were married at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo on June 11, 1950.  They traveled two years while Curtis was in the Army and then returned to the family farm.  They had three children: Kim, Mark and Stacy.

Maxie Lou was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family and being active in her congregation.   She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and was involved in serving communion to homebound church members, cradle roll, teaching Sunday school, circle,  and the annual turkey supper.   She was very artistic and creative and would do crafts, rosemaling, ceramics and sewing.

Maxie Lou enjoyed traveling and would plan family trips so that they could take in all kinds of sights and activities along the way.  She loved entertaining, cooking and gardening, and helped her children plant gardens where they lived. She and Curtis enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends.  She was a avid writer and kept journals throughout her life.  One piece of advice she gave her children was “You can learn to be happy anywhere.”

Maxie Lou became a resident of the Clara City Care Center in 2012.  Even with her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s her sense of fun remained strong.  Laughing and dancing, she brightened the days of those around her.

Maxie Lou is survived by her children: Kim (Mike) Rengstorff, Chaska, Mark Hanson, Versailles, KY, and Stacy (Barry) Walker, Brainerd; her brother, Monty (Jeanie) Todt of San Antonio, FL;  her grandchildren: Alex and Clare Rengstorff, Curtis and Campbell Hanson, Jordan (Kyle) Mileski, and Logan and Max Walker; and one great-granddaughter Quinn Mileski.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; her sister, Faye Ann (Todt) Strong, and her husband, Curtis.
