Melvin Johnsrud of Montevideo died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 80.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter Township. Rev. Larry Olson will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 PM. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home Tuesday evening.
Melvin Joseph Johnsrud was born June 29, 1926 at Montevideo, MN the son of Martinus and Martha (Hveem) Johnsrud. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He was united in marriage with Vivian Erp October 26, 1947 at the Arena Church in rural Madison, MN. They lived and farmed for nearly 55 years in Baxter Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN. He also worked road construction for Thorvald Borgendahlen. Vivian died September 6, 2002. Melvin was united in marriage with LuElla Schmidtke November 17, 2004 in Watertown, SD. They made their home in rural Montevideo. Melvin was an inventor and an avid wood crafter. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and especially liked to make things for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, LuElla; two daughters: Deloris Hanneman of Cologne, MN and Jeanette (Dale) Larson of Beltrami, MN; two sons: Donald (Elaine) Johnsrud of Johnson, MN and Russell (Esther) Johnsrud of Park Rapids, MN; thirteen grandchildren: David (Kristina) Hanneman, Laurie (Kirk) Kossan, Kevin (Jill) Johnsrud, Michelle (Tory) Issendorf, Simona Massie, Trevor (Virginia) Massie, Kristopher (fiancé Samantha Eller) Massie, Scott (Jennifier) Johnsrud, Jessica (fiancé Levi Nyland) Johnsrud, Kristi (Scott) Christianson, Stacie (Jacob) Hoefler, Stephen Larson, and Lisa (Matthew) Johnson; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Rueben (Ethelyn) Johnsrud of Dawson, MN and Thomas (Eleanor) Johnsrud of Waterloo, WI; one sister: Alice (Helge) Goulson of St. Cloud, MN; mother-in-law, Irene Schmidtke of Montevideo, MN; two brothers-in-law: Kenneth (Jan) Schmidtke of Montevideo, MN and Glen (Margie) Erp of San Antonio, TX; four sisters-in-law: Lucille Erp of Arvada, CO, Opal (Wallace) Siegert of Madison, MN, Caroline Erp of Montevideo, MN and Arlene Erp of Canby, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Vivian; son-in-law, Dean Hanneman; two brothers: his twin Marvin at birth and David; five brothers-in-law: Loyal, William, Alvin, Charles, and Warren Erp; and one sister-in-law, Irma Erp.
