Melvin H. Wik, of Monevideo, died on Monday January 30, 1995 at the Chippewa Co.- Montevideo Hospital at the age of 83. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday February 3, 1995 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Alvin G. Lewis,Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7:30 - 8:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Melvin Henry Wik was born on February 25, 1911 in Sparta Township of Chippewa Co., Minnesota to Peder and Ragnild (Haugen) Wig (spelling is correct). He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wegdahl, Mn. and at
tended rural schools. On March 30, 1935 he was united in marriage to Mabel Whitman in Watertown, SD. He farmed in Sparta and Big Bend Townships until retiring in 1972 and moving into Montevideo. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was active with the Senior Citizens enjoying the card and pool playing, and had been a member of the Farmers Union. Melvin loved farming and being around family and friends. He will be remembered for his card and pool playing and for his storytelling.
He is survived by his wife - Mabel; by a son - Jim and his wife Alta of Milan,Mn.; by a daughter - Margaret and her husband Mike Warner of Starbuck, Mn.; by 6 grandchildren - David (Julie) Wik of Monticello,Mn.; Cindy (Jon) Kanten of Milan, Mn.; Julie (Mike) Swenson of Dawson,Mn.; Tim (Pat) Warner of Champlin,Mn.; Tom (Kris) Warner of Montevideo; and Kris (Leif) Olmanson of Eagan,Mn.; by 11 great grandchildren - Sarah & Tyler Kanten; Nikki, Kelly and Ryan Swenson; Andrew and Aaron Warner; Jesse & Joshua Warner; and Anders and Britta Olmanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers - Conrad Wig and Bennie Wig; and by sisters - Palma Byholt, Mabel Rodeberg, and Elnora Wig.
