Michael Charles Gremmels

January 20, 1967 — December 30, 2019

Michael Gremmels, of Montevideo, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at CCM Health  in Montevideo at the age of 52.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020  at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jeff Fitzkappes officiating.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 12:00-2:00PM at  Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Michael Charles Gremmels was born in Appleton, MN to Floyd and Delores (Wachter) Nelson.  He grew up in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1985.  He served in the US Army and was stationed in Hawaii on Johnston Island.  He married Brenda Wick in 1989.  He then went to work in Appleton and served as a Captain at Prairie Correctional Facility for several years before going to Kandiyohi County and Chippewa County as a correctional officer.

Mike was a family man and a hard worker. He enjoyed the work he did and was well respected by the people he worked with.  Family will remember a man who always put his family first and never judged.  He was thrifty and loved to barter.  He enjoyed going to pawn shops, making home improvements, and all kinds of movies.  He was a whiz at Harry Potter knowledge. He enjoyed practical jokes, playing them and being pranked.  But most of all he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren,who adored him and called him “Papa Mike”.

Mike is survived by his wife, Brenda; children: Andy (Kaitlyn) Gremmels, Rogers, MN, Alex (Maria) Gremmels, Alexandria, MN, Tony Gremmels, Montevideo, Abby Gremmels, Montevideo; grandchildren Lauren, Hannah, Charlotte, Oliver; mother, Delores Nelson; siblings: Rick Gremmels, Sid (Kandace) Nelson, Jay Nelson, Bonnie Nelson, Kris Gremmels, Kim (Mark Gustafson), Rob (Michelle) Nelson, Darren (Julia Billington) Nelson; mother-in-law: Barbara Wick; Brenda's siblings: Karen Johnson, Nancy Wick, and Ken Wick; many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Nelson; his grandparents; brother: Al Gremmels; aunt, Judy Wachter; uncle, Ken Wachter; and father-in-law, Clifford Wick.
