Michael Holien

Michael Holien, of Granite Falls, died Friday, January 22, 2021 at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 70.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home of Granite Falls.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 - 11:00 AM on Satuirday.

Michael Stephen Holien was born on September 12, 1950 at Granite Falls, MN the son of Norris and Elaine (Olson) Holien. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Granite Falls Lutheran church. Michael graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1968 and continued his education at Moorhead State University where he graduated in 1976. Michael spent 3 years teaching elementary math and physical education at St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Fargo, ND. He was united in marriage to Mary Imes in 1977. From this union they had two children Jennifer and Sarah. Michael returned to Granite Falls in 1984 with his family. He worked as a salesman for many years at Parkview Motors and then for Payless Pianos. After retiring from sales on the road he worked security at Prairie’s Edge Casino until he fully retired. Michael was an active member in the Granite Falls Community and the Granite Falls Lutheran Church.

In his free time Michael liked to follow the local Granite Falls sports teams; he especially enjoyed spending his summer evenings down at Richter Field catching a town team game. Michael was a proud Kilowatt through and through. He also spent many hours reading; he especially enjoyed local history and learning more about his favorite sports figures. Michael was an avid bowler and golfer and was the first bowler to score a perfect 300 game at the Granite Falls Lanes. Michael would proudly play the VHS tape of that final frame to whomever wanted to see it. Michael possessed a quick wit and a great sense of humor and would greet everyone with a smile.

Michael is survived by his daughter; Jennifer (Theodore) Anderson of New London, MN and Sarah (Andrew) Bollman of Rogers, MN and his 3 grandchildren; Bria Bollman, Isla Bollman and Luca Bollman of Rogers, MN and a sister, Barbara Holien of Granite Falls, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Norris and Elaine Holien.
