Mildred Aanes, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Bill Odermann officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Mildred Louise Aanes was born on July 17, 1907 in Wegdahl, MN to Norman and Georgina (Olson) Aanes. She grew up in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1925. She completed Normal Teacher’s Training in 1926 and taught in Chippewa County in 1927. She attended Moorhead State College in 1928 and 1929 and later attained her four year degree in education. Mildred taught elementary grades in Hantho Township of Lac qui Parle County, Odessa, McGregor and Litchfield for several years before returning to Montevideo to teach for many years prior to retiring. She lived at Brookside Manor in Montevideo before moving to the Luther Haven Nursing Home in 1999. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, donating many of her knit items to charities, as well as playing piano, raising flowers and traveling.
Mildred is survived by nieces: Dorothy Skramstad of Fergus Falls, MN and Kay Hubbard of Mankato, MN; and nephews: Jerry Aanes of Butte, MT, Dean Aanes of San Jose, CA and Gary Aanes of Rochlin, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ernest, Orlando, John, Russell and Warner Aanes; and by a sister, Ruth Meranda Christianson.
