Mildred Armstrong, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Idstrom officiating. Interment will be at Mandt Lutheran Cemetery, rural Montevideo. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before services on Wednesday.
Mildred Irene (Gilbertson) Armstrong was born March 1, 1913 in Chippewa County, MN to Gerhard and Selma (Falla) Gilbertson. She was baptized and confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church , attended rural schools and grew up in Mandt Township. Mildred was united in marriage to Lowell Armstrong on August 31, 1938 at the Big Bend Parsonage. They made their home in Montevideo for several years before moving to Mandt Township, where they farmed before moving back into Montevideo in 1968. She worked at Luther Haven for a number of years before retiring. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a former member of Mandt Lutheran Church and had been active in their women’s groups. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and baking, canning and doing handiwork.
She is survived by three daughters: Janet Armstrong Harrell of Montevideo, Joann Lewis and her husband Ron of Minneapolis, MN, and Sharon Goodroad of Moundsview, MN; one son, Gary Armstrong and his wife Jolayne of Hinckley, MN; six grandchildren: Kevin Lewis, Heath Armstrong, Aaron (and Rachel) Harrell, Greg (and Kris) Tesdahl, Holly (and Joe) Walters, and Brad Lewis; six great-grandchildren: Ashley and Alison Walters, Jonathon Lewis, Erin Harrell, and Summer and Jacob Hamilton; three brothers: Lyle (and Ruby) Gilbertson and Verdie (and Agnes) Gilbertson, both of Montevideo and Curtiss Gilbertson of Woodville, WI; two sisters: Clarice Olson of Appleton, MN and Vernice (and Astor) Underthun of Willmar, MN; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Gilbertson of Montevideo as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lowell in 1996; a grandson, Scott Goodroad; two brothers, Roy and Earl Gilbertson and by a brother-in-law, Clifford Olson.
