Mildred Jordahl died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6-8:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service and time of sharing at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before the funeral service.
Memorials are preferred to The Russell and Betty Dahl Endowment Fund.
Mildred (Anderson) Jordahl was born on March 16, 1920 in Boyd, MN to Anker and Marie (Martinson) Anderson. She grew up in Boyd and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She attended School District #55 in Boyd until the 8th grade. Following school Mildred worked for various families in the Boyd and Dawson area. She later would work at restaurants, the creamery and Don Huck’s V store. She ended her working career at the school cafeteria where she worked for another ten years. Mildred met Alvie Jordahl in Boyd and they started dating, going to dances and movies. They were married on New Year’s Day 1939 at Pastor Froiland’s home. They had four children together, Marlys, Arden, Rueben and Ronald. Arden and Rueben both became sick as infants and died.
Mildred was a hard worker and when she was not working and raising a family she was helping Alvie with various remodeling projects in their home. She also was a very accomplished seamstress, making much of her children’s clothing and clothing for other relatives and friends. Mildred loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed hosting them and extended family for family reunions. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and would participate in the Women’s group and in Circles. Alvie and Mildred were able to travel to various locations including Hawaii, Spain and Norway. When Alvie died in 1997 Mildred would travel with her siblings to such places as Branson and on a Carribean Cruise.
Family remembers Mildred as an excellent cook and seamstress. They also remember her as a very generous and giving person and she would go out of her way to help family and friends. She loved to laugh and it was often that she would laugh at herself.
Mildred is survived by her children: Marlys (Charles) Everest of Honolulu, Hawaii and Ron (Pat) Jordahl of Delano, MN; grandchildren: Larissa (John) Sundell, Derek (Chantelle) Jordahl, Jennifer (Scott) Derringer, and Jonathan (Melissa) Everest; nine great-grandchildren: Taylor (Dylan) Wells, Jory Sundell, Nicholas Sundell, Tyler Jordahl, Haley Jordahl, Emma Jordahl, Elyse Everest, Andrew Everest and Danny Derringer; one sister: Edith Logeland as well as other extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvie; two sons: Arden and Rueben; and siblings: Bernice Jordahl, Gladys Winge, Jay Anderson, Agnes Anderson and Alice Anderson.
