Mildred Roth, formerly of Boyd, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age 96.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson, with a prayer service starting at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Mildred Goetsch was born September 19, 1922 to Herman and Helena (Kunde) Goetsch in Arena Township, MN. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Arena Township. Mildred attended district 97 school until 8th grade, and later graduated from nurses aid school in Appleton, MN. She was united in marriage to Donald Roth on June 4, 1944. Together they had five children.
Mildred spent most of her nursing career working at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, where she was known by “Millie”. Mildred and Donald also owned Roth Café in Marietta for many years. They later on moved to their home near Boyd, where Mildred lived up until March 27, 2015 when she moved to Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Dawson VFW Auxiliary where she was an officer for many years and enjoyed the annual Veterans day poppy sale. Mildred enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing, and baking. She also loved to travel and take special trips with her grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by her children: Howard Roth and special friend, Arlys Putt, of Clinton, MN, Jim Roth, of Boyd, MN, Sue (Arden) Trandahl, of Willmar, MN, and Donna (Rick) Christenson, of Montevideo, MN; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, LuVerne Putzier, of Madison, MN; and brother Edwin (Marilyn) Goetsch, of Nassau, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; daughter, Jan Schake; great-granddaughter, Caitlin Christenson; and sister, Elnora Striech.
