While she was still an infant, the family moved to Holstein, Iowa and later, in her school years, to Sibley and Lake Park, Iowa. She graduated from Lake Park High School in 1934. She played golf and basketball and sang in a girls' sextet. She worked at a newspaper, as a telephone operator and as a grocery clerk before managing a dry goods store in Iowa. She met Elder Molstad at the Arnolds Park ballroom at Lake Okoboji and married him in the church parsonage at Lake Park on September 29, 1940. To them were born four children: Stan, Janet, Lynne and Richard. Millie and Elder owned and operated the Dawson Bakery for over 30 years, Millie managed the accounting, orders, billing and staff, while Elder did the baking. Caramel rolls were her favorite. They were active in the community, running the food stand at the baseball field, baking turkeys for local churches and staffing the enormous grill for community pancake dinners. Millie's favorite hobbies were playing bridge and golfing. She also liked to watch baseball on TV and read the Dawson Sentinel and the Saturday Evening Post. She had been a member of the Golf Association ever since high school and was active in the Ladies' groups of Trinity and Grace Lutheran Churches. She enjoyed traveling: 7 times to Hawaii and also to the Philippines and Hong Kong. She and Elder spent several winters near Knotts Berry Farm in California in the company of other Dawsonites. She entered Johnson Memorial Home in August of 2000, and remained there until her death on Sunday morning, December 26, 2010, one day before her 94th birthday.
