Milford "Curly" Harris Nordby

Milford “Curly” Nordby, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Bill Odermann officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening and with the family from 2 - 4 PM  at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Milford  “Curly” Harris Nordby was born on July 7, 1915 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Henry and Mabel (Hanson) Nordby.  He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Watson, MN and confirmed at Zion on Sept. 30, 1930.  He attended Washington School in Mandt Township.  On July 2, 1937 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Haaland at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Watson, MN.  He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII.  He worked for many years as a carpenter before retiring.  He built his own home on Benson Road and lived there for over 50 years.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW and American Legion and the Carpenter’s Union.  He loved fishing, bird watching, raising roses and gardening, and his family and their family gatherings.

He is survived by 3 daughters: Elizabeth Styrbicky and her husband Arnold of Montevideo; Nancy Kashmark and her husband Bill of Montevideo and Marcia Frazier and her husband Thomas of Spring Lake Park, MN; 7 grandchildren: Robert Styrbicky; Lori Meyer; Linda Hocum; Jody Harmon; Jacalyn Kashmark Jahnke; Kelly Frazier and Sarah Frazier; 9 great grandchildren: Brandon Cobb; Drew and Preston Meyer; Jessica, Adam, Jason and Katie Hocum; Tatum Jahnke and Karissa Frazier; 2 sisters: Marlyn Densmore of Minneapolis, MN and Ardell Benning of Texas; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Nordby of Montevideo as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis in 1995; a daughter Terry Nordby in 1969; a son, Craig Nordby in 1962, by a grandson, Michael Styrbicky., 2 brothers: Raymond and Torfin Nordby and by 3 sisters: Alvina Billberry; Bonnie Olson and Duaine Johnson.
