Minnie Pavlicek, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 98. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Charlie Leonard officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Minnie Katherine (Ahrens) Pavlicek was born on July 15, 1911 in Boone, IA to Benjamin and Anna (Tietjen) Ahrens. She moved to the Montevideo area with her family as a young child, grew up there and attended rural schools. In her adult life she worked at many jobs before retiring and has has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for a number of years. She was a long time member of Salem Lutheran Church. Minnie loved children and although she never had any of her own, she became the grandma to her grand nieces and nephews when her sister, Naomi, passed away. She loved to treat her family and guests to her hotdishes, cookies and lefse. Her passion for braiding rugs, embroidery, crocheting and gardening filled her hours. She delighted in creating countless quilts which she donated to the disadvantaged. Survivors include three nieces: Marilyn (and Jim) McGowan of St. Paul, MN; Meredith Konu of Esko, MN and Helen Kreitel of Washington; grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Naomi Rue and Ethel Johnson and two brothers: Everett Ahrens and Louis Ahrens.
