Muriel Wiegers, of Dawson, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, at the age of 81.

Funeral service was Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Omro Twp. with Pastor Allen Lonnquist officiating.  Organist, Karen Mamer accompanied the congregation in singing “Just As I Am” and “ What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and vocalist, Aaron Madson singing “Amazing Grace” and “Beautiful Savior.”  Niece, nephews, great nieces and nephews: Jon, Mary, Mark, Tom, Taylor, Mya, Katie, Elizabeth, Anthony, Zachary and Bryce were casketbearers and interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Friday at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00.

Muriel Mae Wiegers, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Lother) Wiegers, was born on May 15, 1930, on the family farm in Omro Township, rural Boyd, MN, the same home where her father was born. She was baptized by Rev. Henry Albrecht on June 8,1930, and confirmed by Rev. A.W. Fuerstenau at St. John's Lutheran Church in December of 1943. Muriel graduated from the Clarkfield High School in 1948 and took Teachers Training in Canby. It was at that time that she taught in rural schools. She continued her education and received her degree from Mankato State. Muriel enjoyed her years of teaching in the elementary school at Sleepy Eye, MN. Muriel was united in marriage with Virgil Kettner on September 10, 1966. She moved to Montevideo in 1976 and lived with her parents until 1988. She then moved to Dawson to live with her sister, Florence & husband Leon Werner. She lived the past three years at Johnson Memorial Care Center. Muriel enjoyed it there. She passed away there on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 3 days. She liked to travel: going to World`s Fair in New York City, to the West Coast, Hawaii, and trips to Wyoming to visit her niece, Mary and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and golf. She was a faithful member of St. John`s of Omro Township. Muriel is survived by two sisters: Florence (Leon) Werner of Dawson and Joan (Lyle) Gorder of Gary, SD; 1 niece, Mary (Earl) Thrasher; 3 nephews: Jon (Carol) Gorder, Mark (Nancy) Gorder and Tom (Amy) Gorder; great-nieces and nephews; other family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Otto and Emma; and an uncle, Arnold Lother.
