Murriel Beattie, of Dawson, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 89.
Funeral services was Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 10:30 AM, at the Antelope Hills Christian Church, rural Canby, with Pastor Steve Maas and Pastor Bruce Rodrick officiating; John Wager sang "I Can Only Imagine" accompanied on piano by Mary Wager and Barb Schoberg accompanied the singing of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and "I'd Rather Have Jesus." All of Murriel's grandchildren were honorary casketbearers and Zahn Klyberg, Travis Schutte, Shannon Beattie, Calb Nederhoff, Troy Schutte, Joshua Nederhoff, Ian Beattie and Erik Beattie were active casketbearers. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson on Friday, July 6, from 5-7:00 PM, with a closing prayer service at 7:00.
Murriel Delyle (Shaffer) Beattie was born November 6, 1922 in Lac qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Lee and Belvina (Hanson) Shaffer. She was baptized July 31, 1938 at Lake Cochrane. She graduated from Madison High School and attended Normal Training. She taught rural school near Lac qui Parle Village. She was united in marriage with Gordon Beattie June 30, 1943 at her parents home in rural Canby. To this union five children were born. She was a waitress, worked at Bates Hardware, and was bookkeeper for Larson Tiling. She was active at her church, in the Ladies’ Aide, and was a Sunday School Teacher. Murriel enjoyed sewing, quilting, and coffee with family and friends. The coffee pot was always on and hospitality was her gift. She was a good listener and always made herself available to people.
She is survived by five children: Sheldon Beattie of Dawson, Shelby (David) Borstad of Dawson, Karen (Gary) Nederhoff of Rochester, Marsha (Mark) Schutte of Dawson, and Kim (Lamduan) Beattie of Honolulu, HI; 16 grandchildren: Shellene, Shannon (Racquel), Sherra, Zahn, Diana, Megan, Joshua (Colleen), Caleb, Troy, Travis, Leah, Holly, Jesse, Lindsey, Ian (Roungie) and Erik; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law: Mary Beattie of Canby, OR and Lois (John) Mathews of Council Bluffs, IA; and other family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gordon on June 29, 2002; and a sister, Alice Peterson.
