Myrna Marie (Huebner) (Racette) Reed

Myrna “Racette”Reed of Big Lake, MN and formerly of Montevideo died Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, AZ at the age of 78.

Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Tuesday, May 30th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Montevideo with Fr. Jim Devorak the Celebrant.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of arrangements.

Myrna Marie (Racette) Reed was born on June 6, 1927 in Montevideo, MN to Arthur and Carrie (Ohmacht) Huebner.  She was baptized and confirmed in Montevideo, attended Sibley Elementary school and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1945. She attended Hamline University and graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1949 with a BS in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten-Nursery School minor.  She taught school in Brainerd, MN for a year and taught kindergarten in Montevideo for 30 years before retiring.  On July 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Virgil Racette at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Granite Falls, MN.  Following his death in 1985 she was united in marriage to Frank Reed in 1987 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo. They began to spend winters in Mesa, AZ in 1990 and in 1996, they moved to a summer home on a golf course near Big Lake, MN. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Montevideo, where she was involved in the Women’s Guild, Sarah Circle, was a Eucharistic Minister and a Council member. She was a charter member of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Women Educators, was a life member of the National Education Association; a member of the retired Educators Association and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed doing genealogies, having done one for 4 families. She wrote an autobiography, enjoyed communicating with people by visiting, writing letters and e-mailing, playing bridge, doing crafts, playing golf and entertaining.

She is survived by her husband Frank; a daughter, Marcia Kostrzewski and her husband Al of Verndale, MN; a son, Michael Racette and his wife Patty Wright of Prairie Farm, WI; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; step-children: Sandra Nielsen of Hillside, IL, Cheryl Kalishek of Oshkosh, WI, Cynthia Clark of Las Vegas, NV and Michael Reed and his wife Annette of Green Bay, WI; 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Virgil Racette in 1985; a son, Randall Racette in 1962 and by her brother, Howard Huebner.
