Myrtle Irene (Johnson) Bechtle

Myrtle Christenson Bechtle, 98, of Montevideo died November 1, 1999 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Douglas Olson and Rev. Lois D. Knutson will officiate and interment will be at Brono Cemetery, rural Montevideo.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 4-7:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.

Myrtle Irene Johnson was born September 7, 1901 in Chippewa County, MN the daughter of P. Albert and Christine (Carlson) Johnson.  She was baptized October 14, 1901 and confirmed May 13, 1915.  She was united in marriage with Emil Christenson December 24, 1923.  He died April 5, 1956.  She was united in marriage with Jacob Bechtle June 1, 1968.  He died in 1981.  Myrtle worked at Montevideo Laundry from 1956 until retiring in 1968.  She was a member at Brono and Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle and taught Sunday School.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, and Twins baseball.  Myrtle had lived at Parkview Towers for 27 years.

She is survived by three daughters: Erma Erickson of Montevideo, MN, Lois (Chuck) Sahr of Fredrick, WI, and Vivian (Ronald) Molden of Milan, MN; two sons: Clint Christenson of Minneapolis, MN and Vern (Marsha) Christenson of Winsted, MN; two step-daughters: Myrtle Norton of Montevideo, MN and Lee Pitts of Hopkins, MN; one step-daughter-in-law, Iris Bechtle of Montevideo, MN; one step-son-in-law, Leonard (Vonnie) Ward of Montevideo, MN; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands: Emil Christenson and Jacob Bechtle; one brother, Raymond Johnson; five sisters: Anna Peterson, Frances Falkum, Ida Vane, Agnes Johnson, and Gladys Pratt; two step-daughters: Clarice Ward and Mona Bechtle; one step-son, Don Bechtle; one son-in-law, Shirly Erickson; one daughter-in-law, Marion Christenson;  and one step-son-in-law, Joe Norton.
