Myrtle Belsaas, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 85.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN with Rev. Tim Lindhorst officiating. Burial was in the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery.
Myrtle Winnifred (Swenson) Belsaas was born on April 11, 1916 in Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota to Alfred and Marie Swenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and attended Montevideo Public Schools. On December 25, 1936 she was united in marriage to Palmer Belsaas at her family farm. They lived and farmed for many years in Camp Release Township before moving into Granite Falls in the late 1960's. She moved to Montevideo in 1987 and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 1997. She is a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and enjoyed cooking and doing all kinds of handwork.
She is survived by six children: Jean Kelm of Montevideo, MN, Gerald Belsaas of Minneapolis, MN, Avis Swan of Lake City, MN, Janet Carlson of Mt. Home, AR, Linda Olson of Moose Lake, MN and Robert Belsaas of Belview, NB; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Palmer in 1987; three brothers: Stanley, Russell and Clifford Swenson; and two sisters: Esther Ellingson and Viola Sather.
