Mytle H. Berglund, of Dawson, died on Monday afternoon, February 7, 2011, at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 97. Visitation was on Thursday, February 10, from 4:30-7:00 PM at the Johnson Memorial Chapel in Dawson with a closing prayer service at 7 PM with Pastor Patricia Johnson Carlson officiating. Funeral service was on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 10:30 AM at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church with Pastor Patricia Johnson Carlson officiating; scripture lessons were Psalm 23, Psalm 121 and Psalm 27; organist, Karen Donner accompanied the singing of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "How Great Thou Art" and "Lift High the Cross". Her great-grandchildren were honorary casketbearers and the active were her grandchildren. Interment was in the church cemetery. Myrtle Hilma Berglund was born October 1, 1913, in Cerro Gordo Township, rural Dawson, the daughter of Julius O. and Matte (Shelstad) Larson. She was baptized and later confirmed on November 20, 1920, at the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church in rural Dawson. She attended and graduated from Lutheran Normal School in Madison where she played basketball. Her grandchildren enjoyed her stories of her basketball days and her pony rides. She was united in marriage with Leonard Berglund on June 27, 1937, at the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. To this union Sharon, Lowell and Richard were born. They farmed by Milan, Madison and Dawson. She was a good farm wife and milked cows and loved John Deere tractors. She enjoyed playing Rook and went on three winter trips. She was active in Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, ladies and Bible studies and sang in trio at many weddings and funerals. She also played piano for the junior choir. She also loved quilting, making doughnuts and lefsa. She was the #1 fan of the grandchildren's sports. In August of 2008, she moved from her home into the Johnson Memorial Home, where she resided until her death on Monday afternoon, February 7, 2011, at the age of 97. She is survived by her three children: Sharon Berglund of Plymouth and Lowell (Mary) Berglund and Richard (Colette) Berglund, both of Dawson; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren: Sara (Jason) Link and their children, Jacob, Grace and Julia; Janet (Alex) Hughes and their children, Brock and Sydney; Michelle (Mark) Vanderwerf and their children, Ethan and Carson; Ross (Kristine) Berglund; Beth (Keith) Shoemaker and son, Braden; Cammi (Luke) Jager; Ken Berglund and fiance, Jessica Arechigo; Mark Berglund; and Rachel (Adam) Hakanson; and other family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leonard, on July 9, 2001; daughter-in-law, Patricia Berglund; brothers: Obert, Oscar, Alvin and Reuben Larson; and sisters: Selma Bauler, Mabel Boraas, Judith Skoien and Esther Boraas.
