Myrtle Fremo died on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at her home in Homefront in Montevideo at the age of 95. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Diane Odermann officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Myrtle Lenore (Belsaas) Fremo was born August 28, 1911 in Camp Release Township, Lac qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Peder and Jorgina (Rustad) Belsaas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1929. On June 20, 1931, she was united in marriage with Olaf Fremo at the Belsaas farm home. They farmed for many years on the Fremo homestead in Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle County before retiring. They moved into an apartment in Montevideo in 1993 and in 2000 moved to Homefront Assisted Living. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2006. Myrtle was a member at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter where she sang in the choir, did quilting, and was active in Ladies’ Aid. Myrtle also did a lot of hand work which she often used as gifts. Ole and Myrtle enjoyed going to the Boyd Senior Citizens where they had coffee and played cards. She especially enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and listening to the MN Twins.
She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Hanson of Granite Falls, MN and her special friend Ed Baumgartner; three grandchildren: Debra (Arlin) Carlson, Lori (Robert) Roettger and Steven (Julie) Hanson; five great-grandchildren: Danielle Carlson, Erin Hanson, Lauren Hanson, Blake Roettger and Claire Roettger; one brother, Leonard Belsaas of New Carlisle, IN; two sisters: Edna Anderson of Montevideo, MN and Helen Belsaas of Minneapolis, MN; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Olaf on November 19, 2006; her son-in-law, M.E. “Duby” Hanson; four brothers: Ingvald, Palmer, Alfred, and Richard Belsaas; and five sisters: Christine Brandell, Anna Bergeland, Agnes Mitlyng, Dorothy Foote, and Margaret Chamberlain
