After a courageous year-long battle with cancer, with her family by her side, Nancy died on Friday morning, May 6, 2011, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 16 days. Memorial service was Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Herbert Rotunda officiating; words of remembrance were by Dan Larson; Kristi (Peterson) Tomas sang "On Eagle's Wings" and Doug and Sharilyn Bates sang "Amazing Grace" with organist, Jeanne Peterson accompanying the singing of "Life High the Cross" and "The Day of Resurrection." Grandchildren, Alex, Aiden and Helen along with the Dawson-Boyd Class of 1974 and Cerro Gordo Fastpitch Softball Team members and families were honorary bearers and John Nevins and Bruce Bergeson were urn bearers. Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation was at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson on Monday May, 9, from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a closing prayer service at 7:00. Nancy Jo Jager was born on March 20, 1956, in Slayton, MN, the daughter of John and Donna (Burnside) DeGriselles. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Slayton and in 1959, the family moved to Dawson where she was confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church and later graduated from Dawson High School in 1974. On August 24, 1974, Nancy married Garney Jager at the First Presbyterian Church. They lived for a year in Willmar before moving back to Dawson to make their home. Prior to her present job as Loan Assistant for the Dawson Coop Credit Union, Nancy provided daycare, was a paraprofessional for special education students at Dawson Boyd Schools, worked at the Dawson Liquor Store, Jim's Clothing and at the group homes in Dawson. Nancy liked to read, watch movies and all types of sporting events, dancing, being outside and going to the lake. She loved spending time with her friends and family, but her grandchildren were her life. She is survived by her husband, Garney; children: Nichole (Daren) Swenson of Dawson and Justin (Marilee) Jager of St. Paul; grandhcildren: Alex and Aiden Swenson and Helen Jager; sisters: Karen Volk of Superior, WI, and Melva (Ronnie) Larson of Dawson; father and mother-in-law: Glenn and Helen Jager of Dawson; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary (Andrea) Jager of Maplewood, Galen (Paula) Jager of Gary, SD, Gordy (Vicki) Jager of Woodbury and Gene Jager of Dawson; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many-many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: John on December 29, 1990, and Donna on December 26, 2002. Blessed be her memory.
