Nina Peterson, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, November 10, 1998 at her home in Montevideo at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 13, 1998 at 1:00 PM at Saron Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Nina Elizabeth Peterson was born July 18, 1909 in Boone County, Woodward, IA the daughter of Oliver and Nancy Jane (Emberling) Smith. She was baptized and confirmed at Rosewood Methodist Church, rural Montevideo. Nina attended grade school in Woodward, IA until 1921 when her family moved to Maynard, MN. She graduated from Maynard High School in June of 1927 and attended St. Cloud Teachers College for one year. She taught for five years in Chippewa County School Districts #34 and #24. On June 7, 1933 she was united in marriage with Chester Sanford Peterson. They farmed in the Montevideo and Granite Falls area until 1970 and continued to live on the farm until 1975 when Chester passed away. She then moved to the Windom Apartments in Montevideo. She was a member of Saron Lutheran Church for 62 years and served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent and Ladies Aid President. Nina was a RSVP Volunteer and helped in the sewing room at Luther Haven for many years. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, and crossword and word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Larson and her husband Gene of Montevideo, MN; her son, Robert Peterson and his wife Denise of Granite Falls, MN; 10 grandchildren: Nina Larson of Robbinsdale, MN, Ann Boecker of Montevideo, MN, Peggy Schmitz of Ham Lake, MN, Bruce (Lori) Larson of Lowry, MN, Karen (Greg) Sanborn of Medford, MN, Mary (Mike) Lenertz of Brooklyn Park, MN, Randy Peterson of Granite Falls, MN, Candy Peterson, of Shreveport, LA, Blair and Liesl Reuther of Florida; 13 great-grandchildren: Travis, Brittney, and Tiffany Boecker, Jackie and Michael Schmitz, Brian, Ashley, and Ethan Larson, Kayla and Janna Sanborn, John Nathan Oddan, Jr., Marissa Ann Lenertz, and Phillip Matthew Houchins; 1 great-great-grandson, Isaac Hettver; two sisters-in-law: Leona Knoshal and Arlene Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Chester; two sisters: Edna White and Ferne Mills; one nephew, Wendell White; and one great-granddaughter, Sara Jo Sanborn.
