Norbert Eischens, of Montevideo, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 98. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, May 31,2013 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo with Fr. Paul Timmerman the celebrant, preceded by a rosary at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7 PM on Thursday evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo and with a rosary and parish prayer service at 7 PM.
Norbert Peter Eischens was born on February 11, 1915 near St. Leo, MN to Valentine and Theresa (Hentges) Eischens. He grew up in the St. Leo area and attended rural schools. On October 19, 1937 he was united in marriage to Mildred Abraham at St. Leo Catholic Church. They lived in St. Leo until moving to Clarkfield, MN in 1942. They moved to Canby, MN in 1951, where he was the COOP manager. In 1955 they moved to Appleton, MN, where he operated Joe’s Produce, drove school bus, was a local distributor for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune and drove for Mid-America Dairymen. In 2002 they moved to Montevideo, MN and was currently residing there. He was a long-time member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Appleton and currently was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo. He was also a member of the Foresters. He enjoyed gardening, card playing, dancing, visiting people in the hospital and nursing home, and especially being with and socializing with his family.
He is survived by eight children: Pat (and Eldon) Ostby of Montevideo, MN, Donna Sherod of Benson, MN, Connie (and Jerry) Rice of New London, MN, Bob (and Patty) Eischens of Farmington, MN, Mary Eischens of Willmar, MN, Terry (and Pam) Eischens of Montevideo, MN, Brenda (and Alan) Hoffman of Broken Arrow, OK, and Vicki (and Randy) Zinda of Spicer, MN; 25 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mildred in 2007; a daughter, Shirley Lesewski; a grandson, Steve Lesewski; a great-grandson, Justin Sherod; and five sisters: Marcella Eischens, Mildred Kockelman, Loretta Wenzel, Eleanor Savard and Lucille Nosbusch
