Norma Olson died Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age 102.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at United Methodist Church in Montevideo. Pastor Sam Kautz will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held for one hour before the service
Norma Jane (Stewart) Olson was born October 16, 1918 at Benson, MN the daughter of Arthur and Jessie May (Smith) Stewart. They lived in Cashal Township in Swift County and later in Grace Township in Chippewa County. Norma attended rural school and graduated from Montevideo High School. She was united in marriage with Royal Olson February 15, 1941 at her parents' home in Grace Township. They made their home in Tyro Township in Yellow Medicine County and Rosewood Township in Chippewa County before moving into Montevideo. She was a member of the descendants of the Mayflower Society, Grace Birthday Club since 1939, and homemakers. She was a hard worker when it came to helping on the farm. She enjoyed playing cards, genealogy, fishing, and camping. She loved to entertain and often had caramel rolls for her guests. She also had a secret recipe for her famous triangle doughnuts. Norma was active at Rosewood Methodist Church and then at United Methodist Church in Montevideo. They wintered at Riverwoods Plantation in Estero, Florida and she won many medals playing cards during their Senior Olympics. One of Norma's greatest achievements was learning to swim while they wintered in Florida. She became such an accomplished swimmer, that she volunteered to be the water aerobics instructor in the park until she was 95. Norma even had the chance to enjoy swimming on her 100th birthday. Norma and Royal enjoyed travelling to all parts of the US. Alaska was one of their favorite places to visit.
She is survived by her children: Lois (Duane) Bonde, Arlene (Jim) Kranz and Linda Bolstad; daughter-in-law, Sharon Olson; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Royal; two daughters: Shirley Olson and Janice Olson; son, Raymond Olson; and three brothers: Elmer, Leslie, and Clinton Stewart.
