She was baptized on April 1, 1923 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and confirmed on May 3, 1936. Norma attended Sibley Elementary School and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940. A favorite time of the school vacation was spent on Grandpa August Schroeder's farm during harvesting and threshing. One of Norma's first jobs after graduation was as a clerk in Scott's Five and Dime store. In February 1941, she began her career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator, chief operator and service representative in Montevideo. Norma held the position of District Plant Engineer's Chief Clerk in St. Cloud and Minneapolis. She retired in 1976 to care for her mother. Norma was also the church secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 1980-1983. She also held the position of assistant executive director of the church. Being a part of the community was important to Norma and she was a member of the Montevideo Business and Professional Women's Organization for 43 years. In 1958, she was elected to the Board of the Chamber of Commerce. Volunteer church work was also a part of her life and many hours went into working in the St. Paul Women's Assembly. Norma was also a long time member of the church choir. She also enjoyed teaching a Bible Study class at church and a Reader's Appreciation class at Luther Haven Nursing Home. One of her great joys was traveling in the US and abroad. She is survived by several cousins and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents.
