Norman Colestock, of Montevideo, died on Friday, December 21, 2001 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 88.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating. Burial was in the Maynard Lutheran Cemetery.
William Norman “Coley” Colestock was born on April 30, 1913 in Hecla, SD to Orley and June (Wood) Colestock. He was baptized in Lake Preston, SD and confirmed at Hecla, SD. He graduated from High School in Hecla, SD in 1932. He attended Aberdeen State University and received his Bachelors Degree. On June 5, 1937 he was united in marriage to Ellen Pearson in Hecla, SD. He taught school for many years, living in Miller, SD, Lake Preston, SD, White SD, moving to Maynard, MN in 1946. He was the band director in Maynard for 30 years and had bands that competed with triple A schools. He taught Minnesota Government, Typing, Bookkeeping and directed several vocal groups within the high school. Following his retirement, they moved to Montevideo in 1985. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montevideo, was active as a Mason and Shriner, in Pioneer Village in Montevideo, in Senior Citizens, the Heritage Foundation, and was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed music, golf, swimming and pool.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; five children: Shirlee Kingdon and her husband Robert of Roseville, MN, Donna Erlandson and her husband John of Cambridge, MN, Barbara Antonson and her husband Michael of Anoka, MN, Kay Bill of Vadnais Heights, MN, and Nancy Quillin and her husband Greg of Vista, CA; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Clayton Colestock of Hecla, SD and Willis Colestock of Galeon, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William Colestock, Jr.; two brothers: Arvind Colestock and Ray Colestock; and one sister, Luella Becker.
