Norman Groothuis

September 10, 1933 — May 25, 1995

Norman Groothuis, 61, of Montevideo died May 25, 1995 at his home in Havelock Township of Chippewa County.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 27, at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Douglas Olson and Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate and interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 8:15 P.M.  There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.

Norman Alvin Groothuis was born September 10, 1933 in Chippewa County the son of Lubbert and Freida (Junker) Groothuis.  He was confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and graduated from Maynard High School in 1951.  Norman worked on road construction before entering the US Army in 1956.  He was united in marriage with Sally Augeson December 26, 1956 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  They made their home and farmed in Havelock Township, Chippewa County, MN.  Norman had been a Pioneer dealer for 26 years.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and was active at Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he had served on several boards.  Norman was a good grandpa and he loved farming.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; one daughter, Laurie Groothuis and her fiance Terry Larson of Alexandria, MN; one son, Gary and his wife Kathleen of Montevideo, MN; one granddaughter, Tyler; three sisters: Marion Neal of Willmar, MN, Sabena Mills and her husband Harry of San Diego, CA, Betty Humphreys and her husband Bob of Veyo, UT; six brothers: Leonard and his wife Marge of Minneapolis, MN, Harvey and his wife Marlus of Maynard, MN, Gordon and his wife Lillian of Montevideo, MN, Roger and his wife Shirley of Milwaukee, WI, Ralph and his wife Carmen of Milwaukee, WI, and Chuck and his wife Mary Ann of Clara City, MN; two brothers-in-law: David and Marcella Augeson of Montevideo, MN and DeWayne and Evelyn Augeson of Rochester, MN; one sister-in-law Cheryl Augeson of Marshall, MN; his mother-in-law Sarah Augeson of Montevideo, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lubbert and Freida Groothuis, his step-mother, Margaret Groothuis, and his father-in-law Wayne Augeson.
