Norman Edward Hagen

Norman Hagen, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 95.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. David DeMars officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and with the family for an hour prior to the services at the Church.

Norman Edward Hagen was born on November 13, 1910 in Milan, MN to Edward and Ida (Thorson) Hagen.  He was baptized in 1910 and confirmed in 1924 at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  He graduated from Milan High School in 1928 and from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1932.  He farmed in rural Milan for many years before retiring.  He moved to Brookside Manor in Montevideo in 1996 and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo for the past couple of years. He was a lifelong member of Big Bend Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities including on the church board and as a Sunday School teacher.  He was a member of the Gideons, a camera club, Farmers Union Board, an elevator board and the Sons of Norway.  He enjoyed driving and traveling, including numerous trips to Europe beginning in 1950, and photography, including a photo of a fawn under a tree printed on the cover of the Picture Magazine of the Minneapolis Sunday Paper.

He is survived by a niece, Ruthie Bye and her husband Raylyn of Onamia, MN and two great-nephews: Reed Bye of Princeton, MN and Ryan Bye of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law: Helen and Earl Ettesvold; and by a nephew, Doug Ettesvold.
