Norman Milbrandt died Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Rev. Kent Borglum will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service.
Norman Carroll Milbrandt was born October 16, 1928 in South St. Paul, MN the son of Fred and Agnes (Christenson) Milbrandt. He grew up in Montevideo and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church. Norm graduated from Montevideo High School in 1946. He served in the US Army in Occupied Japan from 1946 to 1948 as a para-trooper. He was united in marriage with Delores Kurtzbein February 13, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church. They had three children together and resided in Montevideo their whole lives. Norm worked as a heavy equipment operator for MN Valley Construction for 42 years before retiring in the early 1990's.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Norm enjoyed driving race cars at Speedy Acres, which was located south of Montevideo, the Fiesta City Speedway, and other race tracks around the region. In 1961, Norm was the season track champion at Fiesta City Speedway in the flathead division. In later years he also enjoyed woodworking and making craft projects with Delores. Both Norm and Delores loved watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. After both Norm and Delores retired, they traveled together on many bus tours and trips across the United States, having many adventures and making many new friends along the way.
He is survived by three children: Pamela (Harold) Wilkinson of Princeton, Michael of Montevideo, and James (Carol) of Huron, SD; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Mary Lou (Duaine) Kurtzbein, Pat Kurtzbein, and Carol Kurtzbein all of Montevideo.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Delores on August 6, 2017; a sister, Lavon Strong; brothers-in-law: Donald Kurtzbein and Denneth Kurtzbein.
