Norris Dahl

Norris Dahl, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at th Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in the Black Oak Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Norris Joel Dahl was born on December 29, 1922 in Montevideo to August and Amanda (Ringsby) Dahl. He was baptized and confirmed at Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church and attended Montevideo Schools. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On October 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ione "Onie"Phyllis Kalberg at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Norrie was a farmer. To him farming was more than a job, it was a passion. He shared that passion as he farmed with his father, his brother Irven, sons Jeff and Mark, and a nephew Richard until his retirement. He would rather have listened to corn grow than travel the world. He was an active member of Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran. He served for many years on the Black Oak Lake Cemetery Committee. He was a board member for the Wegdahl Co-op elevator and was a life-time member of VFW Post #380 and a member of American Legion Post #59. He also was a member of the V.F.W. Drum and Bugle Corps. Norrie was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. An all around handyman, he also loved spending time with his family, playing cards, golfing, fishing, bowling, shooting pool competitively, dancing, woodworking and flower gardening. He is survived by five children: Anita (David) Hagen of Renville, MN, Jeffrey (Deb) Dahl of Montevideo, Marsha Dahl of Burnsville, MN, Mark (Pam) Dahl of Montevideo and Debra (Gary) Kleven of Milan, MN; ten grandchildren: Lisa Dyess of Sacred Heart, MN, Shawn (Sabrina) Hagen of Renville, MN, Kelly Hagen of Sacred Heart, MN, Tricia (Matt) McPhie of Eagle, ID, Amanda (Jim) Alvord of St. Cloud, MN, Katianne (Travis) Birhanzl of Montevideo, Brady (Charlynn) Dahl of Hollywood, CA, Samantha (Anthony) Seeman of Montevideo,Christopher (Angie) Kleven of Alexandria, MN, and Phillip Kleven of Milan, MN; eight great-grandchildren and two expected soon: Maya Dyess, Aerial Hagen, baby Hagen-to-be, Ashley McPhie, Evan and Kaden Alvord, baby Birhanzl-to-be, James Seeman, and Lucas and Caleb Kleven, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. Norrie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ione in 1990; three brothers: Adrian, Roger and Irven Dahl; and by three sisters: Ada Shimp, Verna Weisbrod and Lois Collins.
