Odell Hamre, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Chippewa Co- Montevideo Hospital at the age of 73. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Christopher Lieske officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Odell Donald Hamre was born on July 10, 1938 in Lac qui Parle Co., MN to Oliver and Florence (Perske) Hamre. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo, attended rural schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1956. On November 16, 1974 he was united in marriage to Wendy Mercer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He worked for many years on road construction with Mooney's Inc. and spent his last few years with several other local firms before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, stock car races, watching country western shows on television, playing buck and rolling dice, and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by three sons: Jason (and Rita) Hamre, Ryan Hamre and Jessie Brouwer, and Tim Hamre and Danielle Enevoldsen, all of Montevideo; a grandson, Austin Seubert; a sister, Florine Hamre of Bloomington, MN; a brother, Roger (and Becky) Hamre of Granite Falls, MN; as well as by extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Florence Hamre.
