Olaf Lund, 92, of Clara City and formerly of rural DeGraff, died April 7, 1999 at the Clara City Community Nursing Home in Clara City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 1:30 P.M. at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church. Rev. Carlton Nelson will officiate and interment was in the church cemetery.
Olaf Almer Lund was born January 10, 1907 in Grace Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Andrew and Kari (Haugen) Lund. He was confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. He was united in marriage with Lilia Armstrong March 27, 1930. They lived in Grace Township and Olaf farmed with his brother Alfred until retiring in 1974. He continued to live on the farm until moving to Prairie Park Place in Clara City in 1993 and later to the Clara City Community Nursing Home in May of 1998. Olaf was a member of Miller’s Corner Horseshoe Group and served on the School Board of District #43 and as its Treasurer. He enjoyed hunting, horseshoe, baseball, and ice fishing. Olaf was a lifelong member of Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and had served as its Treasurer.
He is survived by one son, Owen Lund and his wife Marlene of Bird Island, MN; five daughters: Leona Loken and her husband Curtis of St. Peter, MN, Arlys Jolstad and her husband Donald of Eau Claire, WI, Sharon Thorkelson and her husband Donald of Valier, MT, LeAnn Zimmerman and her husband Gene of Delano, MN, and DeAnn Hetrick and her husband Edward of Veedersburg, IN; thirteen grandchildren: MariJane (Lee) Dummer, Kristen Loken, Deryek (JoEllyn) Jolstad, Janelle (Steve) Dahl, Mike Lund, Jim Lund, Melanie (Carl) Rudeen, Lisa Lund, Shirley (Jeff) Galanti, Pamela (Shane) Lind, RoxAnn (Scott) Diers, Abe Hetrick, and Lindsay Hetrick; eleven great-grandchildren: Laura Dummer, Justine, Anthony and Claire Rudeen, Caroline, Grant and Merideth Jolstad, Sarah and Kristin Galanti, Addison Lund, Mercedes Lund, and Mitchell Diers; six nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Caroline Armstrong; friend and caregiver, Mavis Koenen; and friend Jennie Henslin.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lilia; one son, Francis; one brother, Alfred; and two brothers-in-law: Orlin and Clifford Armstrong.
