Olaf “Ole” Fremo, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at his home in Homefront in Montevideo at the age of 101.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Greg Hall officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Olaf Martin Fremo was born on January 6, 1905 in Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN, the son of Jens O. and Carrie (Borton) Fremo. He was baptized at home and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1923. On June 20, 1931, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Belsaas at the Belsaas farm home. He farmed for many years on the Fremo homestead in Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle County before retiring. They moved into an apartment in Montevideo in 1993 and in 2000 moved to Homefront Assisted Living. Ole was a life-long member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and had been a council member and a Luther League leader. He served as Clerk of District #16 Schools, was the Lac qui Parle Assessor for Camp Release Township and was a member of the Sons of Norway. In his younger days, he was a pitcher for the Camp Release softball team and enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to baseball and all sporting events. Ole and Myrtle enjoyed going to the Boyd Senior Citizens where they had coffee and played cards. He especially looked forward to rides out to the farm to observe the land and crops.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Audrey Hanson of Granite Falls, MN; three grandchildren: Debra (Arlin) Carlson; Lori (Robert) Roettger and Steven (Julie) Hanson; five great-grandchildren: Danielle Carlson, Erin Hanson, Lauren Hanson, Blake Roettger and Claire Roettger; as well as my several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and their husbands: Mabel (John) Haugum and Valborg (Ollie) Dale; and one son-in-law, M.E. “Duby” Hanson.
