Olive Sorgaard of Montevideo died on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviour’s of Baxter Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo with Vicar Matt Danielson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Olive Sorgaard was born on a farm in Yellow Medicine County on February 3, 1926 to Ernest and Leona (Lemcke) Cloud. She was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944. On December 24, 1944 she was united in marriage to Gordy Raddohl. They raised their family on a farm in Stony Run Township. After Gordy died in 1962, she remained on the farm. In 1973, she attended LPN classes at Willmar. In 1981, she married Carl Sorgaard and moved to his farm on Highway 212 in Lac qui Parle County. She gained six step-children with this marriage and transferred her church membership to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. Over the years she worked at the Granite Falls Hospital and Manor and went on to Project Turnabout retiring in 1991. Olive was active in her churches and especially enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, WELCA and quilting. She was a member of homemakers clubs, Red Hat Society, Sons of Norway, VFW Auxiliary and especially enjoyed volunteering for Hospice and at Luther Haven on Wednesdays when it was donut day and visited with the many residents she knew. Her other interests included gardening, walking, knitting, crocheting, reading, puzzles, scrabble, games, reciting poetry and enjoyed pets especially her dog. In 2001 she moved to Paulson Park Apartments in Montevideo and stayed until failing health required she move to the Clarkfield Care Center in December, 2015.
She is survived by her four daughters: Patricia Ludgate of Brooklyn Park, Ramona (Ron) Johnson of Brooklyn Center, Melinda (Byron) Cushman of Coon Rapids, and Judy Werner of Hastings; six step-children: Linda (Denny) Reiland of Floral City, FL, Carla (Dan) Abrahamson of Clear Lake, Bonnie (Tom) Grimes of Hutchinson, Kirsten (Wayne) Lake of Niles, MI, Duane (Nathalie) Sorgaard of Peyton, CO, and Amy Gragus of Iron River, WI; a sister, Ruby Kramer of Micco, FL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: Gordy Raddohl in 1962 and Carl Sorgaard in 1995; a son, Gary Raddohl in 1989; two sons in law: Richard Ludgate and David Wood; four brothers; one sister; and several grandchildren.
Family prefers memorials to Baxter Church, Rice Hospice or donors choice.
